I bought this album for £1 back in 2000, without any idea of what it'd sound like. Of course, some lottery tickets are winners and this album has a good claim to being my favourite. Some of that may just be down to it entering my life when I was still young and had a small music collection, making it more prominent in my life. It has, after all, soundtracked numerous pivotal times for me and yet escaped being overplayed all the same. For me, every song, save for closing track Miles & Nemo, is well-crafted, catchy and memorable. Instruments swoon during intimate moments, then let rip and crash about, especially during some anthemic choruses. The singing is equally wide ranged, with soft near-laments seemlessly erupting into thunderous exultation, the Finnish accent always lending a homely, if not odd, quality. Better albums than this may exist, but they certainly will forever be a rarity...
