Sometimes a song explodes in the indie scene making itself an hymn of everyone, but also achieving a rare virtue: it becomes a song that makes you think that is talking to you about things that only you understand. It happened with mostly all the Arcade Fire songs, it happened with those MGMT big hits, and it happened with "My Girls", which comes in a time of crisis and zombies, and whose nearly apocalyptic lyrics about having a simple house for the family, when this economic crisis is, in lots of countries, related to "housing" speculation... touches everyone's feelings directly.

The song is wonderfully constructed too. The "whoo!" after the first chorus phrase is absolutely uplifting. Adictive after the first listen, it is one of the most powerful tunes that has ever come from this scene. The only problem has been the overhype, that makes it difficult to difference between the song/album/group quality and the hysterical trends set by various magazines, and that makes Animal Collective tiresome before even listening to them. But, if only for this, they deserve the hype.
