Anthony Naples - Mad Disrespect FLAC album

Good record, but not great. Not sure why this record blew up like it did. Sure A1 is very well done. The rest is forgettable. Perhaps a future classic just from "Mad Disrespect" alone, but I wouldn't call this a remarkable record.

It's a wonder that critics chose the comparatively simplistic and pedestrian "New For U" over "Mad Disrespect" as the best track of 2012.

Not really, even a stopped clock is right twice a day.

I just dont get 'Tusk'. Does taking a loop from Shake's 'Arise' and layer grunting noises over it constitute a new song? This has to be one of the worst cases of tune thievery ever.

It's what one does with it that counts... or is it what's up-front that counts? (either way, I'm a big Steely Dan fan and I never noticed, so job well done in my book).

Who cares? It's house music. It's foundation is based off sampling. It's in the DNA. What difference does it make when the tracks are as different as these anyway? Really tired of reading people complaining of sampling in house, especially 30 years in. Know your history and respect the style. The legends you defend are responsible for lifting a lot more than you'll ever truly know. It's all in how you use the palette available.

It's not a loop from "Arise". Both are sampled from Steely Dan's "Aja" and treated quite differently imo.

Astonishing and refreshing record in which you hear some Chicago house joie-de-vivre, some Detroit mood a la Moodymann or Rick Wade, some teasing cut-up disco wizardry reminiscent of the Sound Stream/Smith N Hack team, and also some minimal mindfuckery ; but it's all more breathing, spacious, like if Mr Naples was using the same ol' gear that you heard in the past 25 years but he read the notice book differently, with more subtlety, tenderness, lightness, sense of space and full-on audacity...proof that novelty is still possible in house music, using the same ingredients with a different approach and dosage, like the hottest young chef in town would do to traditional cuisine, causing a palate delight.
