It was probably sometime 78/9. Cathy la Creme and Debbie Sticky were doing their girlie John Cooper Clarke thing, as support to The Smirks, downstairs at Rafters. I was with my friends, including (as she liked to call herself) Jenny Clare Hargeaves Smithson Brown. This was her Road to Damascus moment, because from then on Jenny Eclair came into the world

The male vocalist on 'I Married A Cult Figure From Salford' is actually my good friend & author - Mike Rowe (misspelt "Bowe" in above notes). He's credited as 'Mikro' on the label, as he wrote the lyrics, I believe 'Smudeboy' to be John Crumpton, who wrote the music, though I have no idea who 'Wedgeman' is... As far as I'm aware, Martin Hannett & Pauline Murray played no part in the making of this record - sorry to dispel that particular folk myth.....but for what it matters, with reference to the identity of the female vocalist - the name 'Jenny Eclair' has also been mentioned before now, possibly by Mike himself, if I remember correctly!
