"You are magic, full of magic things." Claudia Schmidt on her debut album in 1979 showed why she stood alone in the Chicago folk music revival scene of the 70's. A clear strong sweet voice with a gift for interpreting and inventing traditional and newly infectious tunes were her hallmarks. She also took a cue from fellow Flying Fish recording artist, Ken Bloom, and showed off some unusual instruments in her sets. Joni's dulcimer has nothing on Claudia's pianolin. Listen to this collection of originals, traditionals, and unexpected treasures by Yip Harburg and Buddy Johnson. What a treat. She was on a journey from coffeehouse to cabaret, and this album catches her magic in its grooves.
