Notes

Collection of demos, outtakes, and one live recording salvaged from various tapes belonging to drummer Jon Thomas. The following info is taken from Jon Thomas notes that came with the CD:

1. "And What of Singing Birds"
2. "Unspoken Word" . Both of these were recorded live to a 4-track machine in my bedroom. Singing Birds contains all of Brett's original bowed stand-up bass part. Most of it was mixed out when we recorded it for the Green album. Unspoken word was basically an improv since no drums, I demanded to play Adam's guitar while he played keyboards. I played one note. Brett's bass playinug is on the fly and incredible as always.
3. "Edith, Hold Out Your Hand" . First demo version, containing just guitar and drums. Recorded on 4 track, again in my bedroom. Adam recorded his guitar first, when I added drums there were many times I was completely lost!
4. "And Then There Were None". Recorded live @ Club Lingerie in 1985. I believe this was a show with Psi-Com and Savage Republic. Listen for the drums to drop out for a second 3/4 in. I thought the song was over, but I think I managed to cover okay!
5. "Petit Malfacteur". This was the first version, later reworked for inclusion on Satori. Recorded on 4-track in Brett's living room in 1985.
6. "The Last Mile". This is a very old tune, written before I joined. I could never figure out a drum part for this, so one day while rehearsing in Andy's living room I asked the rest to play it so I could work it on it at home. I don't think it was ever played again (this happened to many many songs written before me, and the year after I joined). Recorded on a handheld cassette recorder in 1985.
7. "Song For the Chumash". Pretty sure I goofed here as this must be on something, Satori or Bloody Boy? Oh well.
8. Sparrow? I think this was the name, but I'm not sure. Recorded on an 8-track at our rehearsal space in 1991 - just before I moved away from So. Cal.
9-12 "Untitled 1-4". These were ideas sent to me from Adam and Brett. I dumped their 4-track recordings into my 8 track and added drums and percussion. 1-2 done in 2003. 3-4 in 2004.
Hope you can eek a small amount of enjoyment from it. all my best, Jon.
