My obsession with “Alternate” Fleetwood Mac lp’s continues unabated. First the “Alternate” Tusk ... now “Alternate” Fleetwood Mac. RSD (bought new from Discog seller)OMG! It’s simply superb! Real musicians, playing REAL instruments ... in a REAL analog StudioSound: A+Music: A+Three most important credits ... 1. Recoded at Sound City, Van Nuys, CA orig. analog tapes/tracks. Engineer Keith Olsen2. Lacquers cut - by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Studios3. Remastered by Dan Hersch D2 - superb work! The packaging is crap ... the cover photo printing looks like a home copier 100th generation print ... EXCEPT for the nice black paper poly-lined inner sleeve. It’s obvious this lp is aimed at audiophiles (who don’t care about the packaging)Lp: dead flat 180g, dead quietThe engineering: pure voices are forward along with LB’s guitar AND drums. Most songs are stripped bare of orchestral overdubs ... and showcase just what a BRILLIANT collection of songs these are.My favorite cuts:Crystal: stripped bare, to just voice and guitar. Sounds fantastic. I’m so Afraid: same thing, just the bare song no drowning organ background.

Some great alternate takes. Sound is absolutely outstanding except for the last track on Side 1, "Crystal". Lot's of distortion here. I thought it might have been my setup, but it was not. It may just be the quality of the recording is bad and there wasn't much else they could do with it. Anyone else have this issue on "Crystal"?

I also forgot to mention that Inner groove distortion is a clear sign of cartridge misalignment. Crystal is the last song on side 1 ... the innermost track. You might want to check your cartridge alignment very carefully. I like to use a mirrored protractor for my alignment and the Analogue Productions Ultimate Analogue Test LP

Kata
Ha! See my review above. Crystal was my favorite cut on the whole lp. It was beyond flawless, it was superb! My rig is all Mcintosh: MT10 tt, Dynavector XX-2 MKII cart.C2300 preampMC275’s monoblocked driving my Spendor S-100’s (teak) with Viablue SC-6 silver speaker cablesMPC1500 power conditioner I threw the lp on the tt with nothing more than a brush dusting/cleaning and cleaning of my cart. I am on the fence, when it comes to prewashing new lp’s on my VPI HW 16.5

My seemed to sound ok. I sonicly cleaned this album and I still had noise so I am not sure if the recording overall is just under par. During playback it sounds very good. Its the light and empty spots where a lot of the noise comes through.

I cannot say anything original about this one, but I will say this is worth it to a fan as it sounds amazing from a dynamic recording to a nice pressing quality. Landslide and world turning alone is worth the coin. Plus my originals aged nicely or not don’t sound like this.
