All the bonus tracks (Tracks 5-10: Mastered at Capitol Mastering) have a high pitched whine on them. Just shocking for 'pure audio'.

Herbie's "Empyrean Isles" session is fantastic. I had the original LP, and now have the U.S. RVG CD, which contains takes 3 and 19. The group, and Rudy's audio settings, were all spot on, that day. I agree with Bob Blumenthal, that this session is superior to the Miles Davis quintet sessions of the 1960s.

The four previously unissued takes are all excellent, and make the new issue well worth getting. It was a dumb idea to lock the new takes away on a Bluray disk where hardly anyone can access them. A two CD set is the way to go. (The session won't fit onto a single CD, by about two minutes.)

As it is, I had to borrow a friend's Play Station 4 to release the tracks. The notes boast three fancy audio formats. I don't know what any of them are, but they needn't have bothered with them, because I had to go through an mp3 stage to record the music onto my computer, for transfer to a CDr. The music came out in mono, but it doesn't really matter, because it's only a quartet. In spite of the mp3, the sound is very clear. For the CDr, I used the 6 tracks on the CD, which are stereo of course.

So, 0 out of 10 for the format, but 10 out of 10 for the music.
