This split 7” 45 rpm limited to an edition 1000, is a tribute to Johathan Richmond. The song “Dance With Me” was first heard the year before this release, as the flip side of Luna’s single “Bobby Peru,” and is perhaps one of the strangest songs Luna’s ever chosen to cover. Of course we all know of Dean Wareham’s legendary fascination with all things Jonathan Richmond, with this being the second song of his to which Luna’s given their personal stamp. It’s a very odd little song to say the least, sort of a musical movie that never becomes a real song, Dean simply talks his way through it, all to a nondescript generic musical background, about a guy with low self esteem at a high school dance who’s trying to convince a girl that she should dance with him though a series of half truths and lies that are seemingly made up on the spot ... stories that will break your heart with memories of how foolish we’ve all sounded, when we so earnestly desired to be hip, all the while knowing that our thin veneer was crumbing to the floor, that we should be listening to our internal dialog, turning and running for the door, but each word that falls from our lips only cements our feet more firmly to the floor, leaving us no way out. And even with all this, the song ends on a note where it’s possible to imagine the girl, being as nervous as our low self esteemed lead character, saying, “Yes.”Wake Ooloo sweep in with their version of “Astral Plane,” a song that picks up right where “Dance With Me Ends,” wanting more than just the dance, wanting to hit the preverbal home-run, and savor the delights of the astral plane.

Sorry but Is Jonathan Richman, not Jonathan Richmond as you said
