"What is Dead Jazz? Dead Jazz is when your swing starts to sag. Dead Jazz is when the bop begins to drop. Dead Jazz is the corpse in your cabaret that’s a shitty tipper. Dead Jazz is the fly buzzing around your excrement. Dead Jazz is the money that’s left over after everyone else has been paid except the bass player. Dead Jazz is when the beat is in retreat. Dead Jazz is the last girl at the bar at the end of the night. Dead Jazz is the gum on the underside of the table. Dead Jazz is that greasy hair that grows out the side of your head and gets plastered over the top trying (and failing) to hide your bald spot. Dead Jazz is the socks you got for Christmas. Dead Jazz is the neighbor's kid who doesn’t seem quite right and just stares at you from the other yard for no reason. Dead Jazz is when cool turns to gruel. Dead Jazz is that mysterious stain that never quite scrubs clean. Dead Jazz is that awkward dinner party to which you should never have been invited. Dead Jazz is when it’s all on its last legs, but you gotta go down and lick it anyway.

PROJECT CONSTRAINTS

All instruments and sounds are acoustic and “real world” in origin. No synthetic or synthesized sources.

All signal processing is limited to natural acoustic simulations. This includes natural sounding reverberation & echo, equalization, stereo panning, light compression and volume adjustments. No artificial sounding processing such as distortion, flanging, phasing, complex delays or pitch modifications have been used.

All performances are in real time with no correction, quantizing or post performance modifications. No metronomes or mechanical timing devices of any kind. All performances are in one take.

Arrangements have been kept as minimal as possible with no more than 4 or 5 tracks of audio used for any one composition. The simpler, the better.

All pieces are cut together as seamlessly as possible such that each section transitions into the next without pause or gap.

All song titles are derived from cartoon/comic “impact” nonsense or phonetic words.
