Wild early Techno by Matt Cogger who learned a lot of his craft working as an engineer for Transmat. The tracks feel and sound like live recordings captured on tape, then further cut and edited. Some standouts are "Wide" (sampling Sylvester!), "Artemis", "Remote Phrases", "MInd You Don't Trip" and "Gene Pools".

Most tracks include at least one or two clear nods towards the Detroit sound. At the same time, they also happily indulge themselves in bizarre, "Warp"-esque sound workouts with a pinch of rave, acid and British IDM. Neuropolitique's sound constantly remains in flux between the musical styles of its time. It is a weird crossbreed at times, but one can hear and enjoy Matt Coggers overwhelming enthusiasm to experiment with sound in it.

This deserves to be better known. If you are wondering this is brilliant old school Detroit Techno in the style of Derrick May. Which is not surprising really, Matt Cogger worked under Derrick in the Transmat studio back in 89. Learning your trade from a master seems to work. Theres a lot of really good hi hat rhythms here and great songs like Artemis and Gene Pools. 5/5
