Devin Abrams (of New Zealand live DnB outfit Shapeshifter) departs dramatically from the atmospheric liquid drum & bass of his previous Pacific Heights albums, instead choosing to focus primarily on hip-hop and soul. Fellow Shapeshifter collaborators Ladi 6 and PDigsss make an appearance on "Breathe", while Joe Dukie (Fat Freddy's Drop) lends his vocals to the gorgeous "Peace". The production quality is excellent all around, and there's even a lovely hidden track about 4 minutes into "The Show Is Over".
The recent success of Shapeshifter has Abrams' full attention at the moment, but hopefully he'll continue his solo efforts under the Pacific Heights moniker. It would be a shame if he didn't.
An absolute gem of an album.
