'I DON'T NEED no pig stomping on my buzz.' The amazing thing here is that even after ten years of time passing this music is still strong and better than 95% of the young no talent bands sliding out of the garages, cellars and living rooms today. Tunage like "Kid Dynamite" (from the second album Scag Heaven) releases a tonnage upon the uninitiated that is the vehicle for many happy returns. Peter Searcy (Big Wheel (2)) has the pipes to front such a sonic storm from the very young guitar welders: David Grubbs (BASTRO / BITCH MAGNET, SLINT, GASTR DEL SOL ...) and Brian McMahon (SLINT, THE FOR CARNATION). Cut and paste lyrics add just the right depth to their tuneful apocalyptic sound - speaking background chorus' that undoubtedly predated later efforts and seeded the stylizings SLINT later adopted as blueprints to whole compositions. Britt Walford (SLINT, EVERGREEN) played drums on two songs on the self-titled debut signifying that this Louisville Kentucky community was tightly linked. The debut proves to be the more raw and powerful. And songs like "Hammering So Hard," "When I Fall" and my personal fave "Sun God," capture the heart and soul of this kick ass rock band that bit off all that it could chew.
