The Twilights - The Twilights FLAC album

The Twilights do really well for their first long player, and while it's 99% covers, it's done excellently. These guys were master interpreters and would later prove to be swell songwriters themselves but here we get a glimpse of their repertoire of mostly contemporary British and American hits played with a lot of rhythm and a little soul. "It's Dark" is a great beat tune the only original here, written by Peter Brideoak. "Long Life" is a ballad, written by Barry Gibb of the Bee Gees and given to the band during recording. They also cover the Gerry Goffin/Russ Titelman composition "Yes I Will" which previously had been released as a single By The Hollies in '65 and by The Monkees as a LP track in '66. The Twilights were big fans of The Hollies so their version more resembles that one. One of the best tunes on the album was a big regional hit for The Twilights, the rocking "Needle in a Haystack". The album closes with a fast and cracking version of the Stones' "Satisfaction" sung with a growl. It's one of my favorite versions of that song. This album really stands above other covers-heavy albums of the era and shows a band with lots of energy, talent and potential. A strong debut by most standards.
