My copy has the 17/23 as well. I actually noticed that all of them at the record store had it. I'm still wondering what it means though

I find Duane Denison is among the ten great guitarists of the last 25 years. However, the music resulting from a continued collaboration with Yow, Sims and McNeilly would inspire me so much more than these extremely well crafted but eventually contrived soundscapes, where The Jesus LIzard was all organic to my ears: Do not get me wrong: Mike Patton is very gifted, but I just cannot bear his music and his operatic vocals, the latter sounding like the cross-breeding of Zappaesque sneer with the contrived zeal of Bono. Makes me cringe.

I also find his voice overbearing on most of the things he does. Where a delicate touch, some sophistication or subtlety is required, Mike Patton fails to deliver. Take Lovage, a great idea, boring as an instrumental project and ruined by Mike Patton when vocals were applied. Jennifer Charles saving most of the record. When I first heard Mondo Cane, my initial reaction was "hokey Italian karaoke" (ha! that rhymed) but I grew to love the compositions and the arrangements. I tolerated his voice. On some tracks I do enjoy his delivery, but most he is a detriment to. When I heard the original tracks by the original artists I was absolutely floored. Mina was truly a revelation to me as a naive rock fan. There are times when he is capable of the subtlety and the restraint required, Desastre Natural from Mit gas springs to mind. Other than that I think you're right in your assessment.
