Honestly speaking, this CD collection is probably not a masterpiece.The mixing is not what we have become accustomed to in this world of technology.The track selection is perhaps a little 'hit & miss'.Even the information insert is put together so that the pages don't run in the correct order....But hey, this is TRAX RECORDS we're dealing with.
The CD package itself is a collection of three discs, two mixed and one unmixed.
The two mixed CD's are a collection of Trax release (both original and more recently licensed) and rely heavily on Flange and Filter effects.Sometimes it feels like these are hiding poor mixing skills, at other times it only enhances the mix in question.This said, the mixes do sound dated, but who would want it any other way?These tracks are mostly from the mid eighties so this more basic approach to mixing only adds to the continuity of the sound.
The third CD is a collection of tracks from the other two CD's in their unmixed formats.Twelve tracks in total, it is impossible to really capture the true essence of Trax Records in such a limited capacity.
All in all, although this CD collection may have its flaws, its limitations and odd choices, it does provide a pleasurable listening experience.I for one would recommend it to anyone who has a passing interest in the history of House.I invite you to press play, close your eyes and imagine you are back in the golden era of Chicago House Music, albiet a Trax golden era.

Awesome collection.
There are a lot of people at the moment who are jumping on the Chicago house bandwagon who haven't done their homework.
This album is a must for any 'serious' house music fan a dead cert for so called Chi-House addicts.

Every track is a killer and getting Maurice and PJ to mix it is a stroke of Genius.

This album will NEVER leave my car stereo.

House music will never die...
