THE MAKING OF ...

It all started when I have bought the LP “At Hüseyin’s” from Phill Musra Group released by Sagittarius A-Star, a mysterious label from Milan, Italy. Soon I wrote an email to the label’s boss, Emaneuele Pinotti aka EP that how grateful I was to see the released work of Hüseyin Ertunç. I asked him if he would be interested to hear some new stuff from my band KONSTRUKT. And I sent him the first track of LP1 “Bulut”. It was a sure hit.

Then EP suggested for a 3xLP boxset from Turkey, a wide perspective on free music, even the idea was to invite Hüseyin Ertunç and Okay Temiz in this project which it turned out to be a dream reunion for me as well... I guess no introduction needed for Okay, but he was always remembered with his collaboration with Don Cherry and J. Dyani in 60s & 70s and Hüseyin’s work is a classic with his 70’s release MUSİKİ LP with Phill Musra & Michael Cosmic. It took me 6 months to schedule the meeting of Hüseyin and Okay, because Hüseyin was busy in Bodrum, painting at his home and studio in south of Turkey. While we have recorded the first LP as KONSTRUKT, I was busy to plan the rehearsal for their TRIO and arranging the venue for a live show as well. It should be done properly because they would play together for the first time ever. Doğan Doğusel who played with Okay Temiz in 70’s and really close friend of Hüseyin, was a complete add on with his double bass for this TRIO. Meanwhile, for the last 3rd LP, we have decided to bring an ensemble for an avant-ethnic performance, which consists on the Trio + a new breed of musicians who were our close friends with different influences and musical backgrounds, from blues to rock to folk etc...

At the end, the rehearsals in Okay Temiz’ Rhythm Studio and the live concert/recording at Babylon in Istanbul resulted in these 3 LPs which would became a boxset named TURKISH FREE MUSIC and it was a real treat for all of us to discover new grounds in our music and souls. I hope you all enjoy what you would here as documented in these LPs, however we will always be grateful to EP for believing us what we do, without him it couldn’t happen that way I guess...
